Extracting Parts of an Image

There are many ways to extract something from a picture, but this is just my perferred way ;D

1. Open your picture in Photoshop

2. Select the Polygonal Lasso Tool by Right-Clicking on the Lasso Tool and Left-clicking on the Polygonal Lasso in the menu that pops up.

3. Make sure your Polygonal Lasso is on 'Add to Selection' before masking.

4. Your selection should be lined with Marching Ants

5. Now you have the option of refining edges. (If you have any version below cs3, you don't get that option >.< Just click the Refine Edge button at the top. Play with the settings. It won't always be the same.

6. Now you right-click on the selection and choose layer via cut. Your extraction is its own layer. (Note: Polygonal lasso must still be selected)

7. Now you can use the Move Tool to move your selection to a new background or what not :D

This tutorial was very vague -.-" If you need more details, just comment and I'll answer any questions.
